Local Government Involvement

• Current Ward 1 Alderperson

  • Participated in the first nonpartisan City of Washington election in April 2019 as a candidate in a competitive race for Alderperson. 

  • In addition to the expected role of an Alderperson in attending City Council meetings, I also attend all other City Board, committee, and Commission meetings.

• Initiated the Citizen Petition to put the question on the ballot for the voters to decide if Washington elections should be nonpartisan beginning with the 2019 City election. Result of the referendum question - 73% of the voters voted yes.

​​

• Successfully advocated for a constituent request to amend a parking ordinance in their neighborhood and the addition of a No Outlet sign.

 

• Successfully advocated for a constituent in a public safety situation, resulting in the installation of a street light.

 

• Identified that there was no Intergovernmental Agreement in place between the Township and the City to share equipment and services. Worked with City staff, the Township, and the Park District representative, resulting in an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City/Township/Park District sharing services and equipment, saving taxpayer money.

 

• Presented a petition to the Washington Township to begin the process that resulted in a new 65+ low-cost ride service within the 61571 zip code.

• Successfully advocated for the Glass Recycling Program that began on May 3, 2021.
